Microsoft finally admits what people knew all along: Xbox One sales were less than half of the PS4

Image
People, especially gamers, have always suspected that Sony’s PlayStation 4 outsold the Microsoft Xbox One. Microsoft never acknowledged this and tried to push the Xbox One using various bundled offers, including Game Pass. Microsoft also positioned as the Xbox as an entry into gaming on a limited budget - instead of having to purchase a hardcore and expensive gaming computer or laptop, go for the Xbox One. Now, though, Microsoft has finally admitted what most gamers knew all along. What comes as a surprise though, is the extent to which the PS4 outsold the Xbox One. Microsoft stopped reporting its Xbox One sales figures at the beginning of its 2016 financial year, focusing instead on Xbox Live numbers, a datapoint, which did not differentiate between Xbox gamers and PC users who used Xbox services on their desktop computers and laptops. Analysts have always believed that Microsoft actually was at the third spot in terms of gaming consoles sold, behind Sony and Nintendo. In a recent...

Will India really ban Chinese Smartphones under Rs 12,000? Authorities clear the air

Image
A few days ago, a report started going around that claimed that the Indian government had decided to ban Chinese manufacturers and smartphone brands to sell their products under the price of Rs 12,000.  Several people close to the matter claimed that a proposal similar to this was being discussed, in order to boost Indian phone manufacturers and give them an opportunity to recapture some of the market share that they have lost. Even Beijing reacted to the news , with the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, saying that the trade and economic cooperation between China and India needs to remain mutually beneficial in nature. The latest report that has surfaced about the matter though, claims that the government is not planning any such ban. The initial reports suggested that the move was intended to force Chinese giants out of the budget phone market in India, which happens to be the second-largest mobile market in the world. Additionally, the decision wa...

Elon Musk may be planning to launch his own social media platform ‘X.Com’ to rival Twitter

Image
It seems the Twitter-Elon Musk saga just refuses to die down. With Twitter suing Musk for backing out of the $44 billion acquisition deal, and the court proceedings set to begin on October 17, the Tesla mogul recently teased that he was planning to launch his own social media platform. Responding to a Twitter user who asked if Musk had ever considered creating his own social media platform, in case the Twitter deal fell apart, Musk simply responded by saying “X.com.” If the Tesla boss is forced to go ahead with the Twitter acquisition, Twitter will only be an elaborate add-on in the expansion of the rival platform. It will only leverage what he is prospecting to do with X.com. If this indeed is true, Musk will join a long list of users who had issues with Twitter, who then went on to create their own social media platforms. The most recent and notable of such cases would be that of the former US President Donald Trump and his own platform, Truth Social . While most of these deriva...

Addressing a press conference, the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, said that the Chinese government has taken note of India's move. “I want to stress that the trade and economic cooperation between China and India is mutually beneficial in nature. Germany bans OPPO and OnePlus smartphone sales, other EU countries might follow suit

Image
It seems that Chinese smartphone makers all over the world are having a rather hard time. India isn’t the only country going after Chinese smartphone makers for inappropriate business behaviour . Germany is the latest country to go after the questionable practices that certain Chinese smartphone makers follow. Oppo and OnePlus have been banned by a German court from selling their 5G smartphones in the country. Experts believe that soon, other countries in the European Union will also come up with a similar ban. The reason behind the ban that the German court imposed on Oppo and OnePlus doesn’t have anything to do with money laundering or misappropriation of funds , but a patent dispute between Nokia and the Chinese smartphone makers. Finnish technology major Nokia, one of the most prominent early mobile phone makers has a ton of patents on 5G technology in its arsenal, and this is turning out to be a massive headache for a number of Chinese smartphone manufacturers. In July this y...

Apple may delay iPhone 14 launch due to China-Taiwan tension

Image
Apple had planned to launch their iPhone 14 series on September 6 this year. However, like a number of smartphone manufacturers, they may be forced to delay the launch event , maybe because of a limited supply of manufactured units, or because of delayed production runs. Apple may be forced to delay the launch and shipment of their upcoming iPhone 14 series. The main reason behind this delay is the ongoing geo-political tension between China-Taiwan, and China’s subsequent threat of military actions, following US House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. The tensions between China and Taiwan have disrupted the supply chain between the two countries. Taiwan is where most of the components of the iPhone 14 were being made, whereas most of the devices were being assembled in Taiwan and China. Even before the China-Taiwan fiasco , Apple was facing a number of issues with its components, ranging from quality control  to shortages of certain major components. Owing to this disr...
